Super Bowl Halftime Show Trailer: The Call
Super Bowl LVI is all set to take place next month on February 13 at the SoFI Stadium in Inglewood, California. This year’s halftime show will be special for Hip Hop as it features a grand performance from several rap icons. Pepsi has enlisted Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray for the official trailer for this year Super Bowl Halftime Show which is titled “The Call”.
Watch below.
I think it’s safe to say that historically, the Super Bowl Halftime Show has always been a bit of a mixed bag. Beyoncé broke Blue Ivy’s internet when she decided to get the entire world in “Formation,” subsequent superstars like Justin Timberlake and The Weekend have failed to impress or astound with their performances.
So in its efforts to correct course, and boldly go where no man has gone before, the NFL and Jay-Z’s Roc Nation—who combined tone-deaf superpowers to create “ the evolution of Colin Kaepernick’s protests” or something back in 2019 are taking the unprecedented step of putting gangsta rap, in all of its misogynistic glory, on center stage.
The Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show will feature a combined 43 Grammys, 19 No. 1 Billboard albums and five legendary artists in the form of Compton’s own Dr. Dre among his protégés Eminem, Long Beach savant Snoop Dogg, and the enigmatic Kendrick Lamar; and the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul herself, Mary J. Blige.
The trailer kicks off with Eminem, who is accompanied by his alter ego Slim Shady as they jumble words while the “Rap God” track plays in the background. Eminem is followed by Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar and Dr. Dre in the next sequences featuring iconic songs “The Next Episode,” “Family Affair,” “HUMBLE.,” “Still D.R.E.,” and “California Love.”
“It’s gonna be a great performance,” Snoop Dogg said in an interview recently. “You got Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Snoop Dogg. This gonna be a great presentation. We still thankful that NFL is accepting Hip-Hop on stage and letting us do what we do. We gonna put together a great show, give the people what they been waiting on. They love to watch a great Super Bowl game and at the halftime they love to see who gonna perform so we’re gonna give you the greatest performance you’ve even seen in Hip-Hop history.”
We can’t wait to see the complete show when it airs Live. Dre is rumoured as a perfectionist, do you think it’ll live up to the hype?
