Mary J. Blige Shares New Song ‘Rent Money’ Featuring Dave East
It samples a classic by The Notorious B.I.G.
Mary J.Blige has once again collaborated with Harlem rapper Dave East. However, this time it’s for her own single titled “Rent Money,” co-written and produced by D’Mile.
Easily a standout amongst the other two tracks already released from Good Morning Gorgeous, “Rent Money” finds Blige scratching off a winning interpolation of a classic (“F**k You Tonight”) from The Notorious B.I.G.’s Life After Death album.
Over a sophisticated Harlem night production, Blige sings about squandering too many emotions on an invaluable man who has left her scrounging the couch cushions for loose change and love.
East seals the track with a solid verse dedicated to him, no longer fitting the bill in his romance.
“Rent Money” follows Blige’s previously-shared singles “Amazing” and the album’s title track. The latter is quickly moving up the R&B charts, extending Blige’s record for the most top ten singles on the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart.
The album Good Morning Gorgeous comes out on Feb. 11. In addition to East, the LP includes stars like Usher, DJ Khaled, Anderson .Paak and Fivio Foreign.
Two days following its release, Blige will take the SoFi Stadium stage for the Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show. An official trailer for the performance bill she shares with Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, and Eminem dropped earlier this week.
