Swizz Beatz And Timbaland Announce Upcoming Verzuz Documentary
Swizz Beatz, Timbaland, and Lena Waithe are teaming up with Amazon for a feature-length documentary about the rise of the popular hip-hop competition series, Verzuz. According to Deadline, The film titled, Gifted & Black,is set to premiere on Prime Video.
James Adolphus will direct, with actor, producer, and Emmy-winning writer Lena Waithe. Producing under her Hillman Grad Productions alongside Swizz Beatz and Timbaland.
Gifted & Black will highlight the history of resilience and innovation in Black music. During times of grief and hardship, chronicling Swizz Beatz and Timbaland’s journey through the COVID-19 pandemic. Founding one of hip-hop’s biggest cultural phenomenons in the recent history of the culture.
The documentary unpacks the roots of Black music. Embedded in Black communities and with Black musical artists, through interviews and never before seen footage. Offering insights into how Black music continues to be uplifting and uniting salvation that endures through uncertain times.
“When we first started this mission the entire world had hit rock bottom. People were going through so much and Tim and I felt we should do something to help folks escape,” Swizz Beatz said,
“The rest is history, we made the magical call to Hillman Grad because we only wanted people to see the best of the best.”
